Rustavi/Rustawi [GE] - Only route 5 in service
J. Lehmann - 23.03.09
Rustavi – Georgia
It is now clear that around ten Skoda 14Tr and six of the ZIU-682 ex Athens vehicles
were acquired from Tbilisi upon the closure of that System.
Apart from some ZIU-682, all were standing unused in the depot in late August 2008.
In addition to the Skoda Trolleybus, number 282/8, a further two ex-Tbilisi Skoda 14Tr, have been refurbished and converted to two-door operation.
Three, at least, of the ex-Athens ZIU-682 have been repainted in a blue and grey livery and display a Georgian flag prominently on the rear panel. Those seen in service in late August were numbered 001-3.
The, during 2005, rebuilt westerly section of route 5 was closed again in 2007 and
during September 2008 the western section of route 1 was also closed. The whole of this route would now appear to have been abandoned. During the early part of 2009 route 5 was serviced by Trolleybuses along it's reduced length.
