Castellón [ES] - Passenger figures likely to increase
J. Lehmann - 02.03.09
Castellón – Spain
The average volume of daily passengers on weekdays on this 2 kilometre section of guided Trolleybus system is currently 3 000 per day. This is an average of 13 people per vehicle. The expected volume of passengers per year for the system upon completion is 800 000. As soon as the extension through the town centre to "Grao harbour" is complete the volume of passengers is expected to increase quite considerably.
The invitation for tendering for the construction of the infrastructure of the main part of this extension along the dual carriage way Avenida del Mar is almost completed.
A point which has not yet been resolved is the vehicle types which also depends upon the question of whether or not the town centre is to remain free of "unsightly" overhead and also be free of diesel fumes. The vehicles would require battery powered auxiliary motors in order to fulfil these requirements.
The three Cristalis vehicles currently in operation, numbered 146 - 4405 GCY, 147 - 8642 GCY and 148 - 4414 GCY are fitted with diesel powered auxiliary motors.
