Urgentsch [UZ] - About 36 km interurban service
J. Lehmann - 01.09.08
Surviving route 2 has been cut-back from Urgench airport approximately 2 km. to Children's Hospital. No alterations have been made to the wiring, and trolleybuses turn at this point on battery. At least two journeys per day continue a further 800 metres towards the airport and turn at Medical College, on days when the College is working. Nevertheless, the length ofthe surviving section of route 2, which is an interurban to Khiva, is officially quoted äs being 36.3 km. With a running time of around 1 hour 20 minutes, seven of the fleet of nine trolleybuses are required to maintain the advertised 25 minute frequency. In Khiva, the terminus at the North Gate of the old city is at the base of a large one-way triangle formed by Najmidden Tebro and Amin Temur. There is abandoned wiring in Rakhimov street indicating that the service might, at one time, have terminated at West Gate. The depot is situated some 2 km. north-east from the centre of Urgench, in Zamalnaya, and appears to have been constructed for a much larger fleet. Thewiring offormer route 1 to Urgench railway Station has been removed. By April 2008 the route had been re-extended to Urgench airport.
The fleet of nine trolleybuses comprises 001-6, Skoda 14Tr, similar to
Toshkent, with a livery of white with slantng green stripes, and 007-9, Skoda 14TrM in a livery of white, green and black with the word "Intourist" on the front instead of a route number and destination. The only route in Service today is route 2 between Urgench airportand Khiva. Route 1 between Urgench railway Station and Khiva closed in 2002.
