Vologda [RU] - New companies keep trolleybus services rolling
J. Lehmann - 15.08.16
On 1 March 2016, the newly established municipal company "Transvod" took over local trolleybus services from the previously defunct operator JSC Vologdaèlektrotrans, which had filed for bankruptcy in 2015. Although most of the former trolleybus drivers have been taken over by the new company, old ticketing schemes have been scrapped and all fares must now be paid in cash on the vehicle. The price for a single journey has been set at 25 roubles. In order to save on electricity charges and reduce operating costs, three substations have been shut down and only three remaining trolleybus routes are served. While lines 1, 2 and 4 have been retained, line 5 was handed over to a different operator, which now deploys diesel buses. Due to these general changes, the local trolleybus fleet has shrunk from 70 to 40 units.
