Budapest [HU] - New trolleys presented ahead of regular deployment
J. Lehmann - 18.11.15
Prior to their introduction to revenue service on 16 November 2015, the first of the new Solaris/Skoda trolleybuses were presented on Hősök tere (Heroes Square) in the city center.
Following a short speech by Deputy Mayor Balázs Szeneczey, the units then used their auxiliary battery packs to make demonstration runs with ceremonial police escorts on lines 72, 76 and 79. After the final operating permit was granted by the authorities in charge, the 12 m long trolleys were classified as 8xxx series and the articulated buses as 9xxx. Until the end of the year, 20 more single units and 16 articulated trolleys are expected to arrive in Budapest. The framework contract with Solaris and Skoda includes options for up to 108 such trolleybuses.
