Hangzhou [CN] - Line 188 launched as third local trolleybus route
K. Budach - 30.09.15
Following years of improvised service using modified trolleybuses with auxiliary power packs on non-electrified roads, line 188 has been completely electrified and was launched as a proper trolleybus route in late September 2015. It leads from the Hangzhou North Long Distance Bus Station via the city center to Xiong-zhen-lou. Along parts of the way, the overhead infrastructure of line 151 is used. For several years, 151 was Hangzhou's only trolleybus line, after two routes had been discontinued in 2006, following the extension of the city's metro. Only in May 2013, another trolleybus route was added again with line K 155. Further expansion of the electric bus network is now planned by city authorities, including the construction of additional catenary from 2016 onwards. The newly opened line 188 is served by Young-MAN as well as Yutong trolleys. Hangzhou is generally expected to benefit from more public transport investment, as the city was recently selected as a host venue for the 2022 Asian Games.
