Mendoza [AR] - Additional order for new trolleybuses
K. Budach - 09.09.15
Following the successful delivery of a first series of 14 Argentinian-built trolleys, the provincial government has approved funding for the procurement of another 15. These identical vehicles will also be supplied by the domestic bus builder Materfer using electrical equipment from Schneider Argentina. The roll-out of the first unit is expected by late 2015. Taking the poor technical condition of the existing fleet in Mendoza into account, the order is well over-due.
It is planned to auction off all remaining Solingen TS 1-3 trolleys, which were formally withdrawn in 2010. Presently, these German-built buses are stored on a remote parking lot. Given their poor technical condition, all of these vintage 1970s vehicles are now considered beyond repair. Although still used in public service, the condition of the cascaded Flyer trolleybuses from Vancouver is not much better.
The new low-floor trolleybuses are seen during their commissioning phase at the maintenance yard of the Mendoza public transport company. Trolley 407 is pictured in the foreground, having just been delivered to the city. Photo: Samuel Fuentes
