J. Lehmann - 10.08.15
The latest 5 low-floor trolleybuses of the type VMZ-5298.01 "Avangard" were delivered in February 2015 and entered revenue service in early March. Therefore, all 79 such units have now been delivered. Including these 5 newest trolleybuses, a total of 35 VMZ low-floor vehicles are in use in Bishkek. They are complemented by 44 type ZiU-682G, which TrolZa delivered from 2013 onwards.
Following the withdrawal of several older vehicles, the Bishkek trolleybus fleet now consists of roughly 130 units, of which 55 are low-floor. Most of the reliable Ziu 682 trolleys date from 2013 and 2001, just 3 vehicles are from 1994 and 1988.
Since the launch of line 7 in December 2013, the local network features 9 different lines. Due to urban construction works at a residential settlement, one trolleybus route even had to be marginally extended to Asanbai.
In order to further improve the network and acquire more new trolleybuses, negotiations have now started with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Up to 5 million Euro are to be spent on new vehicles and a tender was published in May 2015 in the Official Journal of the European Union.
