Plzen [CZ] - New heritage trolleybus
K. Budach - 01.06.15
In December 2012, the local operator PMDP withdrew the last of the once common and widespread Skoda 15Tr. While some of these articulated trolleybuses were sold off to other Eastern European cities, most were scrapped. Fortunately, one unit was purposefully kept in Plzen for preservation purposes. Trolley 414, originally built in 1987 as one of the series prototypes, was amongst the first to be retired in 2000, due to its different electrical configuration. Since then it was stored with other old vehicles at the facilities of Skoda Electric. Thanks to a comprehensive overhaul in 2014, the trolleybus is now back in operating condition and presents itself in near original condition. As such, the vehicle has become a part of the operational heritage fleet in Plzen and on 29 April 2015 made an appearance on the city network. Interested parties may now charter hire the vehicle for private functions and occasional public outings for special festivities are also expected.
