Sarajevo [BA] - 15 new trolleybuses from Geneva
J. Lehmann - 19.01.15
In mid November 2014 a contract was formally signed for the sale of 15 used trolleybuses from Geneva to the Bosnian capital city. Already on 24 December 2014, the first four buses then arrived at the customs terminal in Halilovic. Amongst them were 683 and 689. Five other trolleys (including 686 and 687) followed suit by 12 January 2015. The last six vehicles are still expected to arrive in Bosnia before the end of January. In order to complete the acquisition, the Sarajevo city authorities provided the municipal transport operator GRAS with funding worth BAM 1.4 million (about EUR 730 000). The delivery also includes the supply of countless spare parts for the roughly 27-year old trolleybuses.
With this addition to the Sarajevo fleet, the number of operational trolleybuses will once again rise. As previously reported, as little as 25 units were recently in running order, which constituted an inadequate number of vehicles for operating all services on the citys 5 different trolleybus lines.
The former Geneva trolley Nr. 683 has just been loaded onto a freight train at the yard in Buchs, on the Swiss border to Liechtenstein and Austria. This bus will be amongst the first cascaded units to reach its new home in Sarajevo. Photo: Michael Goll, published on the Facebook page of GRAS
