Makhachkala [RU] - Two new trolleybuses introduced
J. Lehmann - 30.03.15
On 27 June 2014, city officials signed a contract with the Russian producer Trolza for the delivery of two new trolleybuses. The two vehicles of the TrolZa "Optima" type were already supplied soon afterwards and numbered as 243 and 244. Initially running in plain works white, they have now been badged up with all-over advertising, in order to generate additional revenue.
Already in August 2013 it was announced that the planned extension of the local trolleybus line 12 to the neighboring town Kaspiysk, some 18 km south of Makhachkala, had to be postponed due to a lack of finance. Line 12 now terminates at the city limits, while Kaspiysk is still only served by a minibus.
