Medellín 2 [CO] - Test track abandoned
K. Budach - 30.06.14
From early November 2011 to late 2012, various trolleybus trials were conducted on a test track that had been purpose-built at the campus of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellín in Colombia. Initially construction work interrupted the bus trials, but as of late 2013 the entire project has been discontinued and the test facility abandoned. This decision has been made, even though there is plentiful, inexpensive energy available from nearby hydroelectric power plants. The plans for a public trolleybus line on the streets of the city have also been dropped.
The only electric vehicle that was used on the test track had been supplied by the Belarusian manufacturer Belkommunmash. This type of BKM 420 03 A trolleybus with its distinctive, futuristic styling, has now been returned to the producer. After adaptations, it is expected to be transferred to Tiraspol, where two identical units are already in service.
