Banska Bystrica [SK] - Tender for 4 new trolleybuses
J. Lehmann - 13.10.14
In early August 2014, the municipal operator DPMBB issued a tender for 4new low-floor trolleybuses. These are to be financed through EU funding and help continue the process of fleet modernization in this central Slovak city. Aside from a single unit, 3 new articulated trolleys are to be acquired. These should then help replace the older Skoda 14Tr and 15Tr models. Following the earlier procurement of 19 new Skoda/SOR Tr 30 trolleybuses in 2011 (series 3001-3019), 4 older single units (1001, 1003, 1005 and 1007) as well as 6 old articulated trolleys (1501, 1512, 1518, 1523, 1528 and 1529) remain in use. The trolleybus network in Banska Bystrica continues to be made up of 8 different lines, several of which offer a 10-minute interval during peak hours. This kind of service intensity then requires 20 trolleys running at the same time throughout the city.

The newest of six articulated trolleybuses in Banska Bystrica dates from 1999. These Skoda type 15Tr units complement the even older 14Tr articulated trolleys, which date from 1989, the year the local network originally opened. On 18 April 2004, one such articulated bus is seen in the city running on line 2. Photo: J. Lehmann
