Luzern [CH] - First Test Run to Büttenen
J. Lehmann - 07.10.13
In September 2013 work on the trolleybus extension from Würzenbach to Büttenenhalde was completed. The first test run took place on 3 October using articulated trolleybus 224. This first trip was announced via press release.
With the timetable change on 15 December 2013, route 6 will run from Matthof to Büttenenhalde while route 8 goes from Hirtenhof to Würzenbach. According to draft timetable, route 6 will require six runs in the morning and seven in the afternoon at 10-minute intervals. Between 9a.m. and 1 p.m. there will be four buses giving a 15-minute frequency. Route 8 requires 6 runs (peak) or 4 runs (off-peak). Compared to the current schedule, one more trolleybus is required. However route 4 is being changed to articulated trolleybuses with a reduced frequency, so only three instead of four trolleybuses will be required. The increased use of articulated trolleybuses without purchasing new is possible because from the end of the year route 2 will be operated temporarily for about two years by articulated diesel buses during construction a site in Emmenbrücke.
