Lecce [IT] - Will the Network Be Completed in September?
J. Lehmann - 19.08.13
The third and most important route of the trolleybus network in Lecce received acceptance on 09.08.2013. The acceptance was done in the presence of Luca Pasqualini, lng. Alessandro De Paola (USTIF), lng. Silvano Cavaliere (Director of SGM), lng. Carlo De Matteis (municipality Lecce) and lng. Enrico Ghezzi (ATI) according to a local press report. All the necessary tests for the overhead lines and the two substations (via Fermi and Monteroni) were carried out.
Trial running will take place between the 10th and 15th September 2013 and will be completed on the last day. Full electric service will then begin, to coincide with the start of the university semester. By that time VanHool and Vossloh Kiepe will deliver the last of the twelve trolleybuses.
The current bus route 27, planned as a trolleybus route 2, runs the university campus Ecotekne, around 5 km from the city centre every 8 minutes in the normal timetable, though there are variation including an express service.
The other trolleybus routes 29 and ring routes 30 and 31 run every 16 or every 40 minutes. In the summer months from 16.6.2013 to 08.9.13, the routes are operated on greatly reduced frequencies.
