Avellino [IT] - The Infrastructure 'Will Be Ready Next Summer'
J. Lehmann - 24.12.12
In a press conference on 19th December the mayor and the councillor for mobility announced the resumption of work on the 'Metropolitana leggera Avellinese' project. This is a trolleybus route of just 11 km for which the consortium Sirti/Imet/Van Hool und Vossloh Kiepe received a contract in spring 2008. The work, which began in 2009, was halted early in 2010 because of a route alteration in the central area and the state funding had to be reapplied for. The central area is now to be crossed on two parallel streets, following the decision to convert the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanule II, to a pure pedestrian zone.
Following the award of money from the Regional Fund, the construction of the third substation at Piazza Kennedy can begin and the erection of the missing overhead can resume. Mayor Galasso said that he was optimistic that the infrastructure would be ready for service in summer 2013.
