The Slovak government has adopted a program of EUR 420 million, which provides for the expansion and modernization of public transport in the two largest cities of Slovakia. 85% of the funds originate from the EU, and their use by 2015 is foreseen. This comprehensive program includes the purchase of new vehicles for the tram and trolleybus systems in Bratislava.
The operator "Dopravný podnik Bratislava" has published a tender in the EU's Official Journal, to supply 15 standard trolleybuses with auxiliary drive and 15 without, and 50 articulated trolleybuses without auxiliary drive. In addition, 20 standard and 20 articulated trolleybuses are to be included in the bid as an option. The fleet of vehicles in Bratislava consists predominantly of high-floor trolleybuses of types of Skoda 14 Tr and 15 Tr in various body versions. There are only 6 articulated trolleybuses of type 25TR and a single Skoda 21TR.
