Wuhan [CN] - Battery trolleybuses replace gas buses on the ring line 530
K. Budach - 18.11.15
On 22 September 2015, 30 new trolleybuses of the Dongfeng Yangtse WG6 124 BEVH type entered regular service on the local ring line. Fitted with powerful auxiliary battery packs for wire-free operation, they started clockwise services on the ring route, which only has catenary spanning about a third of its total extent. Present plans call for the introduction of additional battery trolleys on counter-clockwise services along the ring line, as well as the extension of the existing catenary.
Currently, the urban network in Wuhan features four different trolleybus routes (lines 1, 3, 4 and 8), with up-to-date procurement schedules foreseeing the introduction of more new trolleys by the end of the year. This will enable the withdrawal of older, high-floor units. All of the vehicles in Wuhan have been produced by the domestic bus builder Dongfeng. Up to 200 trolleybuses are expected to be in revenue service in the near future, additionally enabling the re-launch of the previously discontinued trolleybus route 5, once its infrastructure has been renewed.
