Wolgodonsk [RU] - 10 new trolleybuses from Belarus
J. Lehmann - 04.11.15
On 24 July 2015, 10 new trolleybuses were ceremoniously handed over for revenue service. The event coincided with the 65th anniversary of the city's establishment. The new vehicle procurement has been financed with 104 million rubles from the local budget as well as subsidies from the regional government of Rostov. The new type BKM 321 trolleys have been produced by the Belarus-based manufacturer Belkommunmash, which was recently taken over by the Swiss train builder Stadler. The new units are the first low-floor trolleybuses in Volgodonsk and feature a special loading ramp for wheelchairs. Their lack of air-conditioning, however, has been criticized by the Governor of Rostov. The installation of such equipment is only foreseen for the next delivery of 10 modern trolleybuses, although orders have yet to be placed. At present, the urban trolley fleet consists of 48 units.
The newest trolleybuses have been numbered as 51-60. In this picture, Nr. 60 and three other fleet mates are seen at the local depot, ready to depart with invited VIPs for the inaugural run. Photo: Sergei Maximov
